Innovation

Six Centers Of Excellence

Innovation

Innovation comes from Latin ‘novas’ which means NEW- a word which is very close to the English translation of ‘Jagriti’ i.e. awakening, or rather- enlightenment. Enlightenment. Renaissance of ideas. Newness by going back to the roots-the Indian ethos. Which sums up as–”JAGRITI is all about Innovation”. Without innovation, nothing is impossible. We cannot be static in a world whose basic categories undergo change hourly. We have to think new. We have to rethink and consider every possibility out there. Seek solutions to new problems. And new solutions to old problems. Work out something unique. One can even say-Innovation is the hallmark of enterprise.

OUR SIX CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE ARE OUR BABIES WE NURTURE THROUGH OUT SWEAT AND BLOOD.

WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT

Gandhiji led the Indian Independence movement with an entire army of women at a time when women were dissuaded to step out of their houses. Today it’s not so different. And yet it is. Just as the independence struggle could not be imagined without women, the movement called Jagriti Enterprise Mission cannot be imagined without women. They are the backbone, in fact, because their reach is the deepest because of various socio-economic situations. That’s why women’s empowerment is JEC-P’s most important concern. We think they can lead enterprises better than men. And they need Jagriti’s helping-hand the most.

That’s why a separate center of excellence for them, which is chaired by none other than Vanita Vishwanath. Under it, Jagriti creates and conducts programs which focus on women’s enterprise and employment—something which should be apparent in the number of women incubatees we have produced.

HEALTHCARE

A healthy nation is a wealthy nation. And without inequalities. And in a country like India, which is still to achieve a distant dream of ‘free healthcare for all’, enterprises, which focus on the same, are a boon. So it is one of the most important centers of innovation. Jagriti takes special care in this direction. With mentors and speakers like Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Dr. Aravind, Dr. Devi Shetty, Dr. Randeep Guleria (AIIMS), Atul Gawande (Author)…, Jagriti makes a point of providing as much help as it is possible to entrepreneurs who want to work toward a strong Healthcare system in India. We support and we educate. And we leave no stone untouched. Even at PHC level, our branches are spread out.

DIGITAL INNOVATION

Let us be clear. And the recent pandemic has made it more than clear. Digital is here to stay. To the extent that just as children have to learn alphabets, they have to learn how to browse, and how to make apps (in developed nations for now). So it is an important agenda for Jagriti. The agenda of creating innovative methods of using digital technology to create local developmental tools. Our flagship JDY (please link) is a prime example. We take such digital innovations seriously. So we support the girls in rural Purvanchal through the Internet Saathi program with Google.

 AGRO PROCESSING

Why Agro processing, you ask? And all we can do is laugh. We laugh because its importance should be obvious. India is a land of farmers. Still. And we have more mouths than ever. But we import most of our grains, sadly. So we need to apply better, more technologically advanced methods of agro-processing. We have to take care of so-called small farmers by telling them how they can use technology—to grow food and to sell it in the market. We have to help them get rid of the middle-men. We have to give them a market and proper channels. And we have to help them shift towards natural farming, the need of the hour. All this Jagriti does, with people like Harsimrat Kaul Badal (Minister), Adil Hasan (Harvest Gold), Harsh Bhanwalal (ex NABARD) backing us.

URBANIZATION

We have planned cities. And we have unplanned ones. And we all know by experience that the unplanned ones are not what we should aim at. A gradual and methodical urbanization has always been the need of the hour. And that too at the local level—a district level urban growth, which stops unnecessary and harmful migration of the populace from villages to cities. Economic centers need to be decentralized. We cannot have a few centers like Delhi or Mumbai, which continue to suck the surrounding areas. And there is the transportation cost. And the cost of lives of poor migrants—which live in nothing but shit, in the shanties of the outskirts of these towns. That is why it is one of the 6 key points of innovation for Jagriti. And of course we have experts like Hardeep Puri and Rohit Malhotra with us.

 HANDICRAFT AND APPAREL

Let us be honest. When it comes to handicrafts and even apparels (handmade), there is no place like India. Even the postcards distributed in foreign nations about India have either the TajMahal or ‘local’ people immersed in the task of creating something beautiful with their hands. But sadly, it is dying. Not just as an art, but also as a wonderful enterprising opportunity. Indian Handicrafts have a huge demand. Everyone loves decorating her house with them. And yet, the ones who make them, who lose their hands and eyes in creating beauty, are poor. They cannot afford clean water and proper nutritious meals. Why?- is the question we ask. And as a response, through our networks, we go to the field. Understand how they make those wonderful examples of craftsmanship. And then we help them innovate. On better variants to market suitability. We innovate to create market channels for them. There are many examples. And this is something Jagriti is immensely proud of.
